toast

spread, scrape,
across the dry skin
an armor of rough patches
a body of soft dough
carefully folded toast.
i am itching to quench
the secrets climbing
up from my throat
i swallow slowly,
to sends the words
back to whence they came
scraping escaping thoughts
from my ears and my throat
what silent creatures awaken
during our midday tea and toast?
